  • Tồn dư gỗ, rễ cây, vỏ bao xi măng dưới nên nhà đều là nguồn thức ăn quý báu của mối. Sau khi ăn hết, chúng sẽ tìm đường xâm nhập vào những nơi khác và ăn các vật dụng trong gia đình.
  • Các công trình xây dựng thường thắp đèn, khi phân đàn theo hướng đèn ở các công trình xây dựng, chúng tập trung quanh bóng đèn và rụng cánh con đực tìm con cái cặp đôi tìm nơi thuận lợi xây tổ. Khi công trình hoàn thành thì một quần thể mối mới cũng được hình thành.
  • Mối còn lợi dụng các đường ống cấp thoát nước, đường dây điện ngầm, mạch phòng lún để xâm nhập và leo lên các tầng cao.

Việc rò rỉ ống dẫn nước cũng làm tăng độ ẩm cho các nội thất trong nhà tạo điều kiện cho mối tấn công.
